Unless you are living under a rock, you are quite aware of
how mainstream yoga has become. And, although originally it was considered to
be a form of spiritual practice primarily in Eastern societies, many of us
empaths, healers, and the like in Western society have adopted yoga as either a
modern and chic form of exercise at the very least, to a very holistic (and spiritual) practice at the most.
Basically put, yoga is a practice which helps to promote balance, focus, flexibility
and overall wellness in one’s mind, spirit and
physical body. With that said, here are the top four benefits of yoga that I
have discovered as an empath and healer.
1. Yoga has helped me to
become more conscious of my body’s intelligence as far as what it is trying to tell me, and when it is
trying to tell me that something is off energetically. For example, as an
empath, healer and spiritual practitioner, I get “hit” with negative/dark
energy in the form of spiritual/psychic attacks and energy vampirism quite
frequently; and, depending on where the pain in my body shows up, I am made
aware through my frequent practice of yoga which chakra center has been thrown
out of balance.
For example, less than a week ago, I experienced an
interesting situation with a “gentleman” at work. *Yes, I have a corporate day
gig as well*. This gentleman works as a security officer and shortly after he
was hired, he began to patrol my office and department a little more frequent
than warranted.
Well, long story short, after about two months or so of him
failing to acknowledge (more like choosing to ignore) the non-verbal social
cues by myself and others in our department, I made it clear to this gentlemen
that I was not flattered by his incessant and unwelcomed flirtations and
attention. Nor did I feel particularly comfortable or “secure” with his
frequent and time-consuming patrols to my
department and work office. To the contrary, I made him aware that he had
become a distraction.
Three days later, I woke up with excruciating pain in my lower
back, near the sacral chakra, the area that governs sexuality and
pleasure. It didn’t take long for me to
realize who was responsible for energetically “stabbing me in the back,” and
ironically in my sacral chakra area of all places. And why? because he was
angry that I had rejected his sexual
advances.
So, his anger towards me for rejecting him sexually, manifested as
negative energetic daggers being subconsciously thrown at my sacral chakra by
him, in order to inflict pain in the area of my body that governs sexuality,
intimacy and sexual pleasure.
Luckily, my daily yoga practice has helped me to become so
in tune with my body that I am able to intuitively pick up on any
spiritual/psychic attacks so that I can implement whatever holistic approach
along with my yoga practice in order to alleviate the problem. I also saved
myself an emergency chiropractor visit, although I still may go just for a
“tune up.”
2. Yoga has helped me to
realign my posture and maintain the strength in my spine and back muscles.
For all my fellow empaths, healers, introverts and practitioners out there with
regular “9 to 5’s,” I’m sure that you can relate to me when I say how long
periods of sitting at your office desk and staring into a computer is “not the
business” for maintaining good posture and a strong back.
Add heels to the mix—for
the ladies—and you have now become a chiropractor’s wet dream and meal ticket! Just
fork up your cash, assume the position on the chiropractic table, and while
you’re at it, let him smack you on your ass and say, “who’s your daddy?!” *chuckles*
😊
In addition to sitting at my desk for long stretches of
time, although I do take occasional breaks, I typically sleep on my side at
night (most times with a pillow or two propped between my legs for comfort).
Sleeping on my stomach or back has proven to be a problem that I try to avoid
at all costs. And, if you are a high vibrational empath, healer and/or
spiritual practitioner like me—and, I’m assuming that you are or, you wouldn’t
be reading this post—then you already know why. If not, then ask me in the
comment section below and I’ll enlighten you.
Suffice it to say, with all the
hours of sitting at my office desk, coupled with being a certifiable “side
sleeper,” a consistent yoga practice for me is a must for helping me to
maintain good posture, straight spinal alignment and strong back muscles. In
fact, downward facing dog is one of
my favorite asanas that I implement in my morning yoga routine to loosen up my
back muscles before I head to the shower and get dressed for work.
3. Yoga helps me to maintain
my flexibility and relieve occasional joint and muscle pain. Thankfully, the
practice of yoga is age and user-friendly, especially for those of us empaths
and healers who have become official members of “the 30 and over crew.” Yes,
gone are the days when we could just spring out of bed with three hours or less of
sleep after partying at a techno club all night.
Somehow, as the years
progressed, that “spring” out of bed slowly turned into a “stop, pivot and
roll.” And, those days when we had knees of graphene and could “drop it like
it’s hot” like Meg the Stallion at a concert near you, has now been replaced
with the old school anthem of, “I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up!” *chuckles* 😊
So, because I know what I’m working with and those
occasional “pops” in my knees when I head to the bathroom in the early hours
are happy to remind me, I am wise enough to say that, like Google, yoga is my
best friend. And if you have lived long enough to receive your “30 plus
platinum card,” then give thanks, run to your nearest yoga studio, and make
yoga your new BFF as well.
4. Yoga helps me to
focus on living in the present moment. Practicing yoga has taught me how to
reduce and manage my “monkey brain.” Monkey brain is a colorful way of saying
that your mind is cluttered with random thoughts of multitasking, future
planning and “shoulda, coulda, woulda’s.” In other words, instead of living
mindfully in the moment we often find ourselves thinking about everything but that
which is right in front of us.
As an ambitious, purpose-driven woman with a
busy schedule, and a self-proclaimed “Type-A personality in recovery,” it is so
easy for me to go into full panic mode about what tasks I need to knock off my
to-do list, instead of just focusing on the task that is right in front of me. In
the past, monkey brain has led to decision and chronic fatigue as well as massive energy drain. So, for
me, it is worth noting that it can quickly lead to severe mental burnout or worse if not self-corrected.
However, although I am not 100% cured
of my monkey brain, I can honestly say that my yoga practice has greatly helped
me to become more centered and grounded. I am less likely to experience burn
out these days because I am no longer trying to be in three places at one time, whether that is
physically or mentally. Yoga reminds
me that less is more. And in a world where we are rewarded for running
ourselves into the ground in this proverbial rat race, it is a reminder that I
welcome and heed often.
And, I could go on and on about the benefits of yoga that I
have discovered as an empath, healer and the like, benefits that I did not mention above such as promoting better
sleep for me, as well as reducing stress. However, these are the top four
benefits of yoga that I have
discovered personally. How about you? How has the practice of yoga improved the
